Railway System Building

Vezia, Canton of Ticino, Switzerland

Construction of the new Railway System Building near to the southern portal of the Ceneri Base Tunnel.

Project

The building serves as a logistics centre to ensure the monitoring and management of the railway system. Partly underground construction with slab foundation, floor slabs and structural elements components made of in-situ concrete; facade in exposed concrete. In the first phases of the construction site, the excavation work required an anchored sheet pile wall. The inner concrete wall on the slope side is separated from this anchored pile wall by a suitably reinforced filling concrete layer; on the valley side, the foundation has a special "tooth shape" which serves to absorb the significant loads of the adjacent railway line.
