Extremly Large Telescope

Chile

The largest optical telescope in the world

Project

The Design and construction of the ELT (Extremly Large Telescope), the largest optical telescope in the world, represents a challenge for complexity, extreme precision required and the context in which it is being built, the Chilean desert. The ELT is the most important project approved by ESO (European Southern Observatory). The dimensions are extremely large for this type of structures with a diameter of 115 m and an overall height of 80m, comparable to that of the London Eye's Big Ben.
