A showcase project not just in terms of sustainability

Pre-certified with the Gold Label from the Swiss Sustainable Building Council (SGNI), the latest Europaallee building at Zurich Central Station is both elegant and sculptural. Engineers from Pini Swiss Zurich, led by Reto Bargähr, worked with Stücheli Architekten to design a building to house food outlets, shops and services. The project for SBB Real Estate presents a number of challenges from a structural engineering point of view, for example the steel girders on the first floor, which have to support eight additional floors with an overhang of up to 8.5 m.
