Line 16 Lot 1 – Checking engineering. The new line will link Saint-Ouen to Aulnay and Le Bourget, in the north of Paris.

Project

The work package will allow a connection with line 14 and the construction of the first kilometers of line 17 and line 15 towards the east. The contract involves excavating more than 19 kilometers of tunnels, building 18 related rail structures, laying railway tracks, installing overhead lines, providing path facilities and building 5 stations. The tunnels will have an internal diameter of 7–9 m and will be excavated by means of 6 EPB machines. The expected geology will be characterized by sand (sables de Beauchamp), marls (Marnes et Caillasses) and, locally, limestone (Calcaires de Saint-Ouen). The peculiarity of the project is the excavation of the large diameter tunnels at low overburden, underneath densely populated area, in the soft ground and below the water table (max. water pressure about 3.5 bar). The major challenge of the project is the control of the excavation induced surface settlements.
