Leadership and Pragmatism

Sara Galli heads our Construction Department for southern Switzerland. She is a passionate engineer and leads with energy and focus.

Sara Galli, are you a typical engineer?

In guess you could say so in the sense that I've always been interested in how things work. I enjoy exploring the inner workings of things. Be it solving a technical problem or identifying team dynamics and potentials. Asking questions is an essential tool for an engineer, and my curious nature helps me better understand my colleagues and clients in my managerial role. Female engineers are still atypical in our industry. We at PINI set an example: with Alessandra Bonavita as my deputy, our department is staffed entirely by women.

How do you manage your department?

Our working environment is very demanding, and I expect a lot from my colleagues. Team spirit and collegiality are important to me: building requires teamwork. We work really hard. As the head of department, I make sure that my staff find their place and that they are able to utilise their skills and develop their potential. I use open and respectful communication and encourage my staff to do the same.

What are your goals for the future?

We offer a comprehensive range of services, ranging from traditional construction engineering work to client support and project management. We also have strong expertise in construction site management. Our strength lies in our well-coordinated team of colleagues with a wide range of skills (civil engineers, structural engineers, architects and surveying engineers). This mix of backgrounds is extremely stimulating and enables us to develop robust innovative solutions that best meet our clients' requirements and the required quality of execution. I am keen to develop this broad-based model further. For me, this also has to do with sustainability.
